Kashmir Parents Urge Authorities to Start Schools at 10 AM Amid Colder Mornings
News By Mir Sakib
Srinagar: As temperatures continue to drop and mornings become colder across Kashmir, parents have appealed to the School Education Department to reconsider the current school timings and shift the start of classes to 10 AM.
Parents said the chilly morning conditions are making it difficult for younger students to leave home early and reach schools by the existing reporting time. They believe a slightly later start would provide much-needed relief to children as the weather changes.
The demand follows the recent revision of school timings by the Directorate of School Education Jammu from October 1. Schools in the Summer Zone are operating from 9 AM to 3 PM, while Winter Zone schools are functioning from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
In Kashmir, the school timings were revised from April 1, with institutions within Srinagar municipal limits operating from 9 AM to 3 PM, while schools outside Srinagar municipal limits and in other areas of the division follow a 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM schedule.
Parents have now urged the authorities to review the existing timings in view of the changing weather and consider a 10 AM start, especially for the comfort and well-being of young students.
