PIL Filed in Supreme Court Seeking Cancellation of NEET-UG 2024
**New Delhi, June 10**: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court requesting the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 exam. The petition calls for the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe alleged "malpractices and fraud" in the NEET exam held on May 5, as well as a halt on counseling sessions until the investigation is complete.
The PIL, submitted by two members of an organization advocating for students' rights, argues that the reported NEET exam paper leak has severely disadvantaged many meritorious students aspiring to become medical professionals.
"The petitioners seek justice for students who, supported by their families, invested significant time, money, and effort in preparing for the NEET 2024 exam, only to be denied a fair opportunity," the plea states.
The petition also highlights that some students achieved statistically improbable scores of 718 and 719 marks, questioning the legitimacy of the examination process. It alleges that the exam was conducted arbitrarily and with the intention of allowing certain students to gain admission through improper means.
Additionally, the plea points out that 67 students scored a perfect 720 out of 720, with eight of them from the same examination center, further casting doubt on the integrity of the exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Recently, the Supreme Court declined to stay the declaration of NEET-UG results but issued a notice to the NTA and others regarding similar concerns raised in another case. - (IANS)
