Kupwara, Apr 16 – Director School Education Kashmir, Dr. G.N. Itoo, on Wednesday clarified that there is no ban on school picnics or educational tours in the Valley. However, he emphasized that all schools must strictly follow safety guidelines to ensure the wellbeing of students.
Speaking to media persons in Kupwara, Dr. Itoo stated, "Both government and private schools have been instructed to seek prior permission and coordinate with traffic authorities, police, and local administration before organizing any off-campus activities. Student safety remains a top priority, and these measures are intended to safeguard them."
He noted that due to the heavy rush of visitors at tourist destinations, an advisory has been issued advising schools to refrain from planning picnics or excursions on weekends and Sundays. "This advisory is for the wellbeing of students," he reiterated.
Dr. Itoo also highlighted the crucial role of parents in the education system, urging them to remain actively involved. "Schools are shared community spaces, and the engagement of parents and civil society is vital for building a responsive and effective educational system," he said.
Responding to a question, Dr. Itoo confirmed that the services of Cluster Resource Coordinators (CRCs) will continue. "The Education Minister has approved the continuation of CRCs appointed last year. We are awaiting administrative approval, and a formal order will be issued shortly," he informed.
On the ongoing enrollment drive, Dr. Itoo revealed that over 70,000 new students have enrolled in government schools across Kashmir this year. Among them, 35,000 have joined at the lower primary level, and nearly 1,500 dropouts have returned to formal education.
