JAMMU, APRIL 15 (JKNN): In a significant move aimed at enhancing the safety of students across Jammu and Kashmir, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, chaired a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat today. The meeting focused on reviewing existing traffic regulations and implementing new safety protocols for school and college students.
Senior officials from the Education, Health, Transport, and Police departments participated in the meeting either in person or via video conferencing. These included Additional Chief Secretary Education, Shantamanu; Secretary Health and Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah; Secretary Transport Niraj Kumar; DIG Traffic Jammu Zone; Directors of School and College Education from both divisions; RTOs, ARTOs, Chief Education Officers, and other concerned officials.
Minister Itoo directed authorities to ensure the installation of CCTV cameras in all school buses, including private vehicles ferrying students. She stressed the importance of maintaining valid driving licenses, up-to-date fitness certificates, and fire safety equipment in all transport vehicles used by educational institutions. The issue of overloading in school buses was also highlighted as a matter of immediate concern.
In a major decision, Sakeena Itoo ordered a complete ban on school and college picnics on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, citing student safety as the top priority.
“It is our shared duty to provide a secure environment for our students. All departments must work in synergy to enforce safety regulations effectively,” she said.
