Srinagar, May 22 – As Kashmir grapples with an intense heatwave, the Jammu and Kashmir government is considering changes to school schedules and the introduction of a short summer vacation to safeguard students from rising temperatures.

According to officials, the government has been receiving numerous recommendations from concerned stakeholders about altering school timings. “I’ve already spoken with the Director of School Education Kashmir to work out a suitable plan,” an official stated. A formal decision is expected in the coming days.

District authorities have also issued advisories urging precautions against heat-related health issues. In light of this, schools may soon be directed to suspend outdoor morning assemblies temporarily.

Commissioner Secretary Shantmanu acknowledged the severity of the situation and confirmed that discussions are underway. “While no final call has been made, we’re exploring all possible options, including a brief summer vacation, to ensure the wellbeing of students,” he said.
