No Extension in Summer Vacation for Now: J&K Education Minister

Srinagar, July 2 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Yatoo has said that there are no immediate plans to extend the ongoing summer vacation, stating that the current 15-day break is sufficient.
Speaking to KINS, the minister said, “At present, we have no plan to extend the summer vacation. Fifteen days are enough for students to rest during this hot weather. Moreover, we have been informed that the heatwave is likely to ease after July 4.”
She emphasised that while student comfort is important, academic progress cannot be compromised. “Our children need to complete their syllabus. Schools cannot remain closed every time temperatures rise. Education should not suffer,” she added.
The minister further said that reopening schools after the break is a priority, and any further decision will be taken based on the weather situation. “Post-July 7, we will assess the weather again and take action if absolutely necessary. But extending the vacation endlessly is not practical,” she noted.
Earlier, the government had announced summer vacations from June 23 to July 7 for all schools in Kashmir due to the prevailing heatwave. Before declaring the break, school timings had been revised to cope with the rising temperatures.
Her remarks come amid growing speculation over a possible extension as temperatures continue to remain above normal in parts of the Valley. (KINS)
