Srinagar, Jan 02: Uncertainty continues over the declaration of Class 10th, 11th and 12th examination results as the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) is presently functioning without a Chairman.

A senior official told Greater Kashmir that results cannot be announced unless a meeting of the Result Declaration Committee is convened, which is chaired by the JKBOSE Chairman.

“Finalisation of results requires a formal meeting of the Result Declaration Committee to address and resolve all related issues. Since the board is without a Chairman, there is no clarity on the timeline for result declaration,” the official said.

Earlier, the J&K government had reconstituted a search committee on December 13, 2024, to recommend suitable candidates for the posts of Chairman JKBOSE and Director SCERT. The committee conducted interactions with shortlisted candidates on April 4, 2025, and later submitted a panel of three candidates each for both posts to the government.

However, no decision was taken within the stipulated six-month period, leading to the expiry of the panel.

Due to the delay in appointing a permanent Chairman, the additional charge of JKBOSE was being handled by former Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary), Higher Education Department, Shantmanu, who retired on December 31, 2025. Following his superannuation, the board was left completely headless, further deepening uncertainty over result announcements.

“At a crucial juncture when results are ready, the government should not have allowed the board to function without leadership. An officer of equivalent rank could have been given temporary charge till the appointment of a permanent Chairman,” the official remarked.

According to the official, JKBOSE was prepared to declare the Class 10th results on January 6 or 7, 2026, but the inability to hold the Result Declaration Committee meeting has delayed the process.

Previously, this newspaper had reported that the Class 10th results were likely to be announced in the first week of January, followed by Class 12th results in the third week and Class 11th results by the end of January.

“Without a Chairman, we are now in the dark. Result declaration is a time-bound exercise, and delays can have serious consequences,” the official said.

The annual regular examinations for Classes 10th to 12th commenced in November 2025. In view of academic disruptions during the session, JKBOSE had also announced a 15 percent relaxation for students of Classes 10th, 11th and 12th.

Official figures reveal that 94,783 students registered for the Class 10th examination, including 68,804 from Kashmir, 25,224 from winter zones of Jammu division, 660 from Kargil and 95 from Leh. Around 81,622 students registered for the Class 11th examination, while 70,117 students appeared for the Class 12th examination this year.
