Mirwaiz Supports Two-Day Weekly Holiday For J&K Schools, Says Students Need Time Beyond Studies
Mirwaiz Kashmir Molvi Mohammad Umar Farooq has backed the proposal for a two-day weekly holiday for school students in Jammu and Kashmir, saying children need sufficient time for family, recreation and community activities along with academics.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a Seerat programme at Jamia Masjid Srinagar, Mirwaiz said he fully supports the proposal and believes students should get both Saturday and Sunday off.
He said a two-day break could help students return to school on Monday with a fresh mind, particularly as many students are already managing schoolwork, tuition and additional classes.
His remarks come amid Pampore MLA Hasnain Masoodi’s proposal for a five-day school week in J&K. Masoodi has said he intends to raise the issue in the Assembly despite the proposal not being included in the selected list for the upcoming session.
Education Minister Sakeena Itoo had earlier said the proposal would be examined by the Directorates of School Education Kashmir and Jammu.
