Srinagar, October 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has completed preparations for the upcoming annual regular examinations, with approximately 2.70 lakh students expected to appear in Classes 10th, 11th and 12th across Kashmir Division and winter-zone areas of Jammu Division.
JKBOSE Chairman Ghulam Hassan Sheikh said that 282 examination centres had been established for the three classes and all necessary arrangements, including the appointment of examination staff and the distribution of confidential examination material, had been completed.
Speaking to news agency JKNS, Sheikh said the Board would ensure that examinations were conducted fairly and transparently, with strict measures in place to maintain discipline and prevent the use of unfair means.
He reassured Class 10th students that there was no need to panic, explaining that question papers would follow the learning competencies outlined under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with greater emphasis on analytical skills and conceptual understanding rather than rote learning.
The Chairman said the Board had approached district magistrates regarding necessary restrictions under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and had also sought adequate police arrangements to ensure that examinations proceeded without outside interference.
To strengthen monitoring, JKBOSE has constituted around 40 vigilance teams to oversee examination centres across different districts. A grievance monitoring cell has also been established to address concerns raised by students, parents and teaching staff through dedicated communication facilities.
Sheikh appealed to examination superintendents, supervisors and invigilators to deal with candidates patiently and sympathetically, especially those appearing in board examinations for the first time. He stressed that while students should be treated with care, any attempt at cheating or other unfair practices must be dealt with appropriately.
The Chairman also advised students to carefully enter their roll numbers and paper series details on answer scripts. Examination staff have been asked to verify these details before collecting the answer sheets to prevent errors during coding, evaluation and result preparation.
Appeal to Parents
Urging parents to create a supportive atmosphere at home, Sheikh said families should encourage their children instead of placing excessive expectations on them to achieve exceptionally high marks.
He cautioned that unnecessary academic pressure could negatively affect students’ mental well-being and advised parents to value their children’s efforts rather than focus solely on percentages.
The Chairman also highlighted support for Children with Special Needs (CWSN), stating that eligible candidates with notified disabilities would receive applicable concessions in passing marks. Arrangements for scribes would also be facilitated for eligible students who face writing difficulties because of notified disabilities.
Sheikh reiterated that JKBOSE was committed to conducting the examinations in a secure, transparent, fair and student-friendly environment, urging students to remain confident and focus on their preparation.
