Srinagar, Jun 20 (KNO): This Eid-ul-Adha, Kashmir saw a mutton consumption worth Rs 72 crore, with dealers reporting that 400 trucks of livestock arrived in the Valley four days before the festival.
Mehraj ud Din, General Secretary of the Mutton Dealers Association Kashmir, informed Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that 400 trucks loaded with livestock reached Kashmir ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
According to his data, 60,000 livestock arrived specifically for Eid, costing around Rs 72 crore.
He added that Kashmir experienced significant mutton trade, with around 1800 trucks of live sheep entering the region from May 15 to June 15.
Each truck carried approximately 150 livestock. Despite the large influx, market sales were lower than last year’s Eid-ul-Adha, leaving a surplus of mutton.
The unsold stock included mainly local supplies and some Delhi Walla sheep. However, there was no meat shortage, ensuring consumers had ample access to mutton.
Discussing monthly sales, he said the total stock brought into the valley was worth approximately Rs 324 crore for the month—(KNO)
