Srinagar, Apr 6: In a concerning development, at least 44 dog bite incidents were reported across Kashmir on Sunday, sparking fear among residents in various districts. According to officials, the majority of these attacks occurred in Pulwama, Kupwara, Narbal, and Srinagar—particularly in the localities of Nawakadal and Sakidafar.

Out of the total cases, over 20 victims—including several women and children—were bitten by a stray dog in Srinagar’s Sakidafar, Rashanhar, and Nowpora areas. Additional cases poured in from Dalgate, Narbal, Kupwara, and Pulwama.

All the affected individuals were rushed to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar, resulting in a major rush at the emergency unit. A senior official from SMHS confirmed the numbers and stated that all victims have been administered anti-rabies vaccinations.

Tufail Ahmad, a resident of Tarabal in Srinagar, expressed his distress: “Two of my children were among those attacked. This situation is out of control—authorities must intervene urgently.”

The growing number of dog attacks has raised serious concerns about public safety and the need for effective measures to tackle the stray dog menace in the region.
