School Timings in Kashmir Likely to Change from Monday: Sakina Itoo

Srinagar, July 11: Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Friday announced that government and private schools across Kashmir are likely to operate under revised timings starting Monday.

Speaking exclusively to Greater Kashmir, Itoo said the decision was taken to ease the difficulties faced by younger students under the current schedule.

“From Monday, schools within Srinagar Municipal limits will function from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, while schools outside these limits and in other districts will run from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM,” she said.

She noted that the recent rainfall has brought down temperatures, allowing for a revision in school hours.

Previously, schools located within municipal areas operated from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, and those in rural areas from 8:00 AM to 12 noon. These timings were implemented after schools reopened following a 15-day summer vacation amid demands by parents to extend the break due to intense heat.

Itoo further said that school timings would again be reviewed in the coming months to align with weather conditions during early winter.
