Srinagar, Sep 30: Sanjay Kumar, Union Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), chaired a comprehensive review meeting of J&K’s School Education Department at SKICC Srinagar on Monday. Accompanied by senior officials, he underlined the urgent need to enhance the quality of education in government schools and to upgrade infrastructure on a sustainable basis.

The Secretary urged for a significant rise in enrolment in government schools and pushed for vocational and skill-based learning across all institutions. He also directed that dropout rates must be addressed so no child leaves school before completing Class 12, while stressing stronger pre-primary foundations with large-scale kindergarten enrolments.

In a key directive, Sanjay Kumar asked JKBOSE to reconsider the Class 11 board examination and work towards removing it. He also emphasized coordinated efforts among stakeholders for holistic development of students and urged steps to make government schools centers of excellence comparable with private institutions.

The meeting, attended by top officials including Secretary Education J&K Ram Niwas Sharma, DGSE Kashmir GN Itoo, Director School Education Jammu Dr. Naseem Choudhary, and representatives from Samagra Shiksha, SCERT, JKBOSE, and other bodies, discussed various reforms including NEP-2020 implementation, teacher training, CBSE curriculum adoption, assessments, and the possibility of setting up a CBSE regional office in J&K.

Progress under key initiatives such as Samagra Shiksha, PM SHRI, PARAKH, PM e-VIDYA, and DIKSHA was also reviewed, along with digital interventions and teacher training programs under DIET and ITEP.
