Srinagar, Oct 03: Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Friday confirmed that the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) will continue to conduct annual examinations for Class 11 students, dismissing speculations about reverting to school-level tests.

The clarification follows recent suggestions by Union Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL), Sanjay Kumar, who during his Kashmir visit proposed scrapping the Class 11 board exam. However, Sakina Itoo said the practice of JKBOSE conducting exams will remain unchanged.

“Union Secretary may have given his suggestion, but JKBOSE will continue to hold exams for Class 11th as it has been doing for years,” she told Greater Kashmir. She added that board examinations for Classes 10, 11, and 12 will continue in the same format, leaving no room for confusion among students or parents.

Itoo also praised JKBOSE for its transparent and timely conduct of exams and declaration of results.

Notably, Class 11 exams were earlier held at the school level, but students reportedly took them lightly, leading to poor preparation for competitive exams. To address this, former Education Minister Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari reintroduced board exams in 2018, a move widely welcomed by stakeholders.
