Education Minister Backs JKBOSE Curriculum, Asserts J&K Schools Equal to Other States

Baramulla, Oct 20: Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Monday strongly defended the JKBOSE curriculum, affirming that Jammu and Kashmir’s education system is on par with other states across India.

Speaking at the Annual Day event of Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Baramulla, where she also inaugurated several projects, Itoo said, “The syllabus framed by JKSCERT and JKBOSE aligns perfectly with the National Education Policy 2020 — our schools match the standards of any other state.”

Her remarks follow criticism over the quality of JKBOSE textbooks and study material. Highlighting the success of J&K students in NEET and JEE exams, she said such results prove the strength of the current syllabus.

Addressing concerns about private schools charging extra fees, Itoo mentioned that a Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) is in place and urged parents to file complaints directly with it.

On pending appointments for JKBOSE Chairman and Director SCERT, she clarified that the recruitment process is underway. Responding to questions about teacher shortages and vacant principal posts, the minister said, “We’ve filled several key administrative posts like ZEOs and CEOs. Staff rationalisation is continuing, and all vacancies will be addressed soon.”

Itoo encouraged students—especially girls—to stay focused and make the most of their higher secondary years, commending their achievements despite challenges.

Appreciating the School Education Department for significant progress in the last year, she cited better infrastructure, DPC meetings, lecturer recruitment, and vacancy clearance as major steps forward.

Before concluding, the minister extended good wishes for upcoming board exams and issued a firm warning: “Schools showing poor results will face strict action to ensure educational quality.”
