Srinagar, Nov 24 (KNO): The government has confirmed that winter vacations for students up to Class 8 in Kashmir’s winter zone will begin on December 1.

Additionally, officials have indicated that the winter break for students from Class 9 to 12 will likely start in the second week of December.

Speaking with the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Education Minister Sakina Itoo stated, “The proposal for winter vacations up to Class 8 has been approved, and the break will commence from December 1.”

She added that for senior classes up to 12th standard, the holidays are expected to begin on December 12 or 13.

Earlier, the minister had said that the decision for an early winter break was being considered due to falling temperatures and continuous requests from parents concerned about younger children.

She noted that discussions regarding the schedule had already taken place, and a phased vacation plan for the Kashmir winter zone was tentatively set for the first week of December for lower classes.

Commenting on the ongoing textbook concerns, the minister said that the issue has been “largely streamlined,” with clear instructions issued to prevent any shortage of books or uniforms.

It is important to mention that KNO had earlier reported about the department’s plan to announce winter vacations in phases starting from early December.
