Muharram Observances: Schools in Kashmir Directed Not to Hold Exams from June 23–27

Srinagar, June 13: In view of Muharram observances across Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Education Department has instructed all government and recognised private schools to refrain from conducting in-house tests, internal assessments, or term examinations from June 23 to June 27.

The decision was announced by Education Minister Sakina Itoo following requests from MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq and concerns raised by the public. The move aims to prevent inconvenience to students caused by traffic diversions, road closures, and restrictions during Muharram processions and Majlis gatherings.

The minister stated that educational institutions must strictly follow the directive and avoid scheduling any examinations during the specified dates. She also warned that any violation of the instructions would be taken seriously and may lead to disciplinary action.

The decision has been welcomed by students and parents, particularly in areas where Muharram events attract large gatherings and affect normal movement.
