Srinagar, Nov 24: The government has decided to bring forward the winter break for kindergarten students in view of the worsening cold weather across the Valley.
Speaking to Greater Kashmir, Education Minister Sakina Itoo confirmed that November 25 will officially be the final working day for all kindergarten classes.
“I have already discussed the matter with the Director of School Education Kashmir, and we have agreed that tomorrow will be the last working day for KG students,” she said.
The move follows persistent appeals from parents, who have been urging authorities to announce early vacations due to the sharp decline in temperatures. The announcement comes just days after the government said that winter vacations for Classes up to 8th will begin in the first week of December.
Parents expressed concern over the health risks for younger children.
“Temperatures are already dipping. Kids with asthma or cold allergies are especially vulnerable. Sending them out in this weather is unsafe,” said Asma, a parent from Srinagar.
Parents also highlighted the danger of shifting between centrally heated classrooms and cold outdoor assembly grounds, saying such transitions can be harmful for small children.
“The sunshine may look pleasant, but it’s not suitable for kids’ health in these conditions,” they added.
Minister Sakina Itoo acknowledged the severity of the weather and said the decision was taken purely for the safety and wellbeing of young students.
“Kashmir is experiencing intense cold. Considering this, we have opted for early closure of kindergarten classes,” she told Greater Kashmir.
