J&K Govt Likely to Announce Decision on Summer Vacation Extension Soon
Srinagar, July 18: The Jammu & Kashmir government is reviewing whether to extend the ongoing summer vacation for schools in the Kashmir Valley as the region continues to experience an intense heatwave.
Education Minister Sakina Itoo said the administration is keeping a close watch on the weather and will make a decision after carefully assessing the situation. She stated that schools are currently closed until Sunday and that the safety and well-being of students will remain the government's highest priority.
The minister noted that the Valley has witnessed unusually high temperatures over the last two days, unlike anything seen in recent years. She added that while education is important, protecting students from extreme weather conditions comes first.
Schools in the Kashmir Division are presently observing summer vacation from July 6 to July 19, 2026. A final decision on any extension is expected after reviewing the latest weather conditions.
