Govt Considers Reducing Syllabus for Classes 1-9 by 10-30%
Sakib
Srinagar, Nov 7: Education Minister Sakina Itoo has confirmed that the government is contemplating a reduction in the syllabus for classes 1 to 9 for this academic year. Speaking to Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Itoo stated that the decision is still under consideration and no final decision has been made yet.
According to sources, the government is likely to reduce the syllabus by 10 to 30 percent for these classes, taking into account the shorter academic year due to the restoration of the academic session.
Earlier, the education minister had announced that the academic calendar would be restored to the November-December schedule for classes up to 9th standard this year. She clarified that the academic session for classes 10 to 12 will be adjusted starting from next year.
Additionally, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has been instructed to hold the 10th to 12th grade examinations from February 2025, with completion expected by the end of March.
Furthermore, the government has mandated that the annual exams for class 8 students will be conducted by individual schools starting from the 2024-25 academic session.
This move comes after the government introduced a Uniform Academic Calendar in 2022 for the entire region.
